Sometimes kindness returns after years.
"More than 20 years ago, when we were creating the Charitable Organization 'Mother and Child' as a nationwide network of help for children, we were looking for representatives of our Charitable Organization in different regions of Ukraine," recalls Alla Melnychuk.
In the Vinnytsia region, one of those representatives was a family friend. We offered everyone at least a symbolic financial thank you for this responsibility and work. But he refused. He simply said that he wanted to help from the heart.
Years passed.
And then, 14 years later, a girl was born prematurely to a young family of pediatricians. The family lived in Chernihiv at the time, although they were originally from Vinnytsia. The baby urgently needed a programmable shunt system for brain surgery. The child was hospitalized in Okhmatdyt.
And it was then that our organization helped provide the girl with everything necessary for the surgery.
When we published this story on social media, the girl's grandfather saw the post. And then we realized… it was the same man who, many years ago, selflessly agreed to help our organization and refused any gratitude.
Today, his granddaughter is a smiling, healthy and happy girl. She has finished kindergarten and will go to first grade in September.
And perhaps this is one of the most important truths of life: kindness never disappears. It just returns one day – in the form of a saved child, a happy smile and a new life.
The post uses photos and videos shared by the parents of our ward Emilička on their social media, as well as archival materials of the Charitable Organization "Mother and Child".
