Multiple shrapnel wounds, shattered legs, nearly lost vision, orphanhood: all this had to be endured by seven-year-old Angelina. A Russian missile strike destroyed the life of the girl, her two brothers and sister.
That terrible day took the life of a man who was raising four children alone. They were left orphans. At the same time, the older boy suffered severe injuries to both hands, multiple shrapnel wounds. Doctors had to amputate phalanges on two fingers of his hand. The younger girl – Angelina – suffered the most. She has numerous shrapnel wounds, severe injuries to both eyes, both legs shattered.
First medical aid was provided to the children at a local hospital. But the health situation was so critical that immediate action was needed: involve professional specialists, transport to a safer place to a medical facility. At that time, there was a great risk – especially for the girl – to completely lose her vision, never to stand on her feet. Each day of waiting could make irreversible changes.
Almost a month later, the Charitable Organization "Mother and Child" learned from doctors about the tragic story of this family, about the severely injured Angelina and her brother. Thoughts of them didn't leave us. We understood we would do everything possible and impossible so these children could live and rejoice again. Soon the children were successfully transported from Kharkiv to Kyiv, where they were placed in the private medical facility "Dobrobut". There Angelina and her brother were under constant supervision and underwent necessary examinations, treatment, sessions with a psychologist.
We now understand what a difficult path was overcome together so that the children could get their chance at life. Many caring hearts were involved in making this happen for the fate of the orphans.
We thank the doctors who could not ignore the children's misfortune and immediately turned to us for assistance in saving the children. We also thank those who were with them 24/7 and provided necessary qualified medical assistance.
We thank our glorious Armed Forces of Ukraine for giving us the opportunity to care for children and fight for their lives.
Grateful to all social service workers who understood the criticality of the situation and met us halfway so the children could get their chance to live.
We thank everyone who supported, helped, worried about the lives of Angelina and her brother. This story united thousands of kind and caring people! You wrote, called from all corners of the world, asked about the children's needs in the hospital. And you also passed on toys so they wouldn't be sad.
It was extremely difficult, but we did everything necessary for these children to get their chance at a life without pain. At the first opportunity, Angelina and her brothers and sister with guardians were able to leave Ukraine for further treatment and rehabilitation abroad. We are grateful to their guardians – these wonderful people who surrounded the orphans with care and love with faith in their future! We bow deeply to you for this!
Great gratitude to the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for cooperation and help in organizing the children's move. Together we managed to transport them to one specialized clinic in Vienna – Orthopädisches Spital Speising.
Ahead lies no less difficult path that must be overcome for the full health and well-being of the children. But we are glad that at the most needed time we were nearby and could help. We never tire of thanking everyone for support and assistance! Together we overcome difficulties, inspire hope for the better, give priceless chances at life to our children! To be continued...
