A story about adoption that everyone should read

Stories sometimes change fate more than words. I want to share the reality I see every day. A story that everyone who has ever thought about adoption should read.

There is a woman, 40 years old. She found out she was adopted from neighbors, not from her mother. But the biggest truth is not in the words, but in the fact that she was once simply saved by love.

Today she is herself a mother of a special child. She lives under explosions, without light and warmth.

I tell her: "I will take you to safety." And she replies: "I will not leave my elderly bedridden mother. She once picked me up from a garbage dump. I will be with her until the last day."

This is the answer to all fears and doubts about adoption.

A child who was given love will never forget it.
Even after 40 years. Even in war.

Every day I hold in my arms children who have lost their parents. Children who breathe so very quietly, are afraid to be a burden, but so desperately want to be accepted.

They are guilty of nothing. They just want to live. And to have someone to whom they will one day say: "I will not leave you. Because you once did not leave me."

We fight for every child's life. For those whose mother or father was taken by the war – and sometimes both.
