Today we want to share the story of little Maria – a baby born with a severe diagnosis of Spina Bifida.
In such cases, a child’s quality of life entirely depends on how quickly and professionally a medical team acts in the first hours after birth.
Maria was taken to Ohmatdyt Hospital just minutes after birth. That’s where her journey to recovery began – thanks to the exceptional professionalism of neurosurgeons, resuscitators, neonatal surgeons, nurses, and everyone who saves such children every day.
Special thanks go to Pavlo Mykolaiovych Plavskyi and the entire neurosurgery team who performed the first complex spinal surgery and later operations on the brain, as hydrocephalus often develops in such cases.
Our organization has supported children like Maria for over ten years. We know help must be comprehensive – medical, material, and human. And we are proud to be part of this battle for life.
Today, little Maria was discharged home.
She has undergone complex procedures – the installation of drainage systems, reservoirs, and shunt systems.
She smiles, and we believe she has a life ahead full of movement, growth, and light.
Heartfelt thanks to:
– the resuscitation team who cared for her 24/7;
– neonatal surgery doctors;
– everyone who supported financially – your contributions covered the medical materials for surgery;
– the company Apeksha and Denys – for providing essential surgical supplies;
– Alina – for funding the emergency aid fund that saves children’s time;
– FABRYKA children's clothing and Darochka.ua – for the lovely gifts for Maria;
– the Embassy of Finland in Ukraine – for warm clothes and blankets;
– and all those who are with us – with words, hearts, and hope.
This is a story about how much a team can achieve. And how important it is to be there on time.
Thank you for being with us.
Thank you for helping save children’s lives.
Together, we are a big heart.
