Six-month-old Maksym needs urgent skull surgery

Six-month-old Maksym is still very small. He is just beginning to get to know the world, smile at his mother, carefully look around and learn to trust this life. But instead of a carefree childhood, a difficult challenge already awaits him – skull surgery.

Maksym has been diagnosed with craniosynostosis (trigonocephaly) – a congenital skull defect. Simply put, one of the skull bones fused too early. As a result, the brain does not have enough room for normal growth. Externally, this manifests as a change in the shape of the head, but the greatest danger is hidden inside. As the child grows, the brain begins to experience increasing pressure.

Without timely treatment, this can lead to increased intracranial pressure, developmental delays, vision problems, constant headaches and other serious complications. That is why doctors must perform surgery in the first year of life, when it offers the best chance for full recovery and normal development.

Maksym needs complex reconstructive neurosurgery. During the operation, doctors will reshape the skull bones so that the brain can grow and develop freely. This requires special biodegradable materials. They securely fix the bones after surgery and gradually dissolve in the body over time, so no additional surgery is needed for removal.

For the parents, this news was a real shock. It is hard to realize that a six-month-old baby must undergo such a complex surgical intervention. But today, his future depends on timely help.
