How to unite society's efforts to save children

Alla Melnychuk attended KIEF Talks – a side event of one of the largest economic forums, the Kyiv International Economic Forum.

They discussed finance, responsibility, and how everyone should move forward in times of great uncertainty.

One idea shared by Viktor Halasiuk resonated with her strongly: society, the state, business, and institutions should work as a single orchestra.

Because in practice, in her daily work, she often sees something different. Everyone does a lot. Everyone tries to help within their area of responsibility. The state – at its level. Business – at its level. Charitable organizations – where they can address the most urgent needs. Doctors – daily at the edge of human capacity. Parents – in the fight for their children's health and future.

But when all these efforts are not connected into one system, fragmentation occurs. And unfortunately, very often children are the first to suffer from this.

In over 20 years in charity, she has seen many times how important it is not just to help at a specific moment, but to create a support system around the child. One where children can quickly receive the help they need. Where parents are not left alone with their troubles. Where business understands that its participation can change someone's life. Where benefactors don't just address a need, but effectively unite people, resources and opportunities.

This is exactly how they work at the Charitable Organization "Mother and Child". They talk to doctors to understand real needs. They speak with parents to see not just the diagnosis, but the full story of the family. They engage businesses, partners, caring people, organizations and institutions. And from this, a small but effective support system gradually emerges, with the child at its center.

Alla Melnychuk would very much like this approach to scale. For interaction between the state, business, the charitable sector, medical institutions and society to become not an exception, but the norm.

Because today each of us does what we can. But real strength appears when we start doing it together. With different tools, but with one common goal – to save the lives, health and future of Ukrainian children.
